Alternate Card Ideas for the Sweet Ice Cream Stamp Set

Creating Ice Cream & Popsicles are fun and easy to create with these ice cream and popsicle stamps, punch and paper.  But if you look closely, there are several alternate card ideas for the Sweet Ice Cream stamp set too.  I challenged myself to stick with the same color palette for each card, as well as the same card base and no layers or frills.  Two of my favorite stamps in the set are the “happy birthday” and “thank you”.  I love the fun fonts and larger size, which can be used with many other stamp sets.

Each card is made by using the Basic White Notecards & Envelopes pack.  This pack of cards is one of the best values in the catalog.  You get 20 pre-scored notecards and 20 envelopes for only $7.  My color palette was: Cinnamon Cider, Bermuda Bay, Poppy Parade, Blackberry Bliss and Daffodil Delight.  I chose these colors based (loosely) on the colors in the Ice Cream Corner Designer Series Paper pack.

Ombre Technique

This was the first card I made.  I wanted to showcase how you can use one ink color and get several hues from that same color (also known as the ombre effect).  To get this look, I inked the stamp only once.  I inked and stamped “thank you” at the bottom of the card first, and then before I stamped again in an upward direction, I huffed on the stamp to re-moisten (with my breath) the ink that was still on the stamp.  I was able to get six impressions by only inking my stamp once.

My next card showcases the popsicles stamps.  There are 3 stamps that make the popsicle: the top and bottom of the pop and the stick (there is a 4th stamp that adds texture to the stick, but I didn’t use it here).  As you can see, you can create all sorts of flavors of popsicles by changing the ink colors.  I even made a watermelon pop with the seed stamp that is included in the set.  Because there is a top and bottom to the popsicle, you can make your pop long or short depending if you overlap or not. These pops are medium in size.

Masking Technique

My next card uses the masking technique to get all the scoops to layer on top of each other.  Stamp the scoop on a post-it note (on top of the sticky part) and cut out with scissors.  Whichever scoop you want to be seen in full is the first one you stamp – my top scoop.  After you stamp the first scoop, place the cut out post-it note directly on top (so you don’t see the scoop underneath).  Stamp the next one underneath and a little on top of the post-it note.  Peel the post-it note off and place it on the one just stamped.  Repeat until you stamp the last scoop.  Place the post-it note on top of the last scoop and then stamp the cone.  This way, the rounded edges of the bottom scoop will be on top of the top of the cone.  I used the same color ink, Poppy Parade for each scoop, using that same ombre effect – sometimes a full ink, sometimes less ink.

Punch Art

This next card uses very little stamping.  I used the coordinating ice cream builder punch to punch the cones and scoops out of the Ice Cream Corner Designer Series Paper.  The scoops are not your traditional flavors, but full of texture and fun.  I stamped “You’re So Cool” on top of one of the scoops.

Patterns

The cone stamp does not need to be used only as a cone!  Use it as a triangle to create a geometric pattern.  Again, I stamped twice in each color to create two colors.  Some people call the first stamp first generation and the second stamp (without inking again) second generation.  I really like this geometric pattern.

My last card is a little whimsical, but I was trying to think outside the box, for a little fun.  I am sure you can take the concepts of this card and turn it into even more fun.  The Happy Birthday was inked in Daffodil Delight and then partially inked in Poppy Parade and Bermuda Bay.  Some call this technique “rock & roll“.
