Using Shapes to Create Backgrounds

This is a great background technique for two reasons. It’s a great way to use up scrap pieces and you can use different dies & punches for the different shapes. As you look at all the photos, you can see that they are all varied. You could make this same card for each of the holidays and every occasion by changing up the sentiments and papers. I used the same tag tailor punch for each of the cards, but the cards are all different because of the papers and colors. I think you will really like using shapes to create backgrounds and add this layout to your mix of card making techniques.

The card I show you in the video using Gilded Autumn Designer Series Paper
Halloween version using Magic in the Night Designer Series Paper
A cheery get well using Ornate Garden Designer Series Paper
Pretty Peacock card base with Brightly Gleaming Designer Series Paper
Another version of the same card using Mossy Meadow as the card base

Try this same technique and layout with the different dies and punches you already have: circles, rectangles, squares, labels, etc. Switch up your papers and colors and you will have a new card each time without having to redesign each card. So far, my favorite shape has been this one. Don’t have the Tag Tailor punch? You can order your own right here.

Have fun using shapes and patterned papers to create backgrounds on your cards. Looking for more card ideas using punches & papers? Be sure to read this post: https://mailsomethingpretty.com/cutting-6-x-6-paper-into-fun-shapes/
