Scary Halloween card using The Raven stamp set and Embossing

Have you seen the Halloween candy in the supermarkets yet?  Believe it or not, my daughter and I saw a Nutella snack stand in a food store featuring Halloween characters on the 4th of July!!!!  That’s a bit early in my opinion.  My Holiday pre-order arrived last week and last night I decided to play with one of the new Halloween sets called The Raven.  When I saw it in the soon-to-be-released 2019 Holiday catalog, my mind went straight to embossing the Raven with black embossing powder to get him nice and shiny.  And that’s exactly what I did with this card.  You can almost feel the feathers because of the embossing powder (but who would want to touch the feathers of a raven??).  You too can make this scary Halloween card using The Raven stamp set and easy embossing.  I took a couple of photos of my progress with the card because I wanted to point a few things out to you.Card featuring The Raven stamp setThis is the finished card and I am really happy with how it came out.  There were no samples on Pinterest, so I had to come up with the design 100% on my own.  I enjoy creating my own when I have the time and new sets are a great excuse and challenge for me.

Card featuring The Raven stamp setThis photo has a few things in it that I want to point out.  The black background is embossed with the new Hammered Metal 3D Embossing Folder.  In the holiday catalog, this folder can be found on page 31 with the Brightly Gleaming suite.  As you can see here, it is not holiday specific which gives it many uses.  I also think it will work wonderfully as background for the giraffe found in the Animal Outing stamp set.  I thought it gave a great texture to accompany the Raven.  The other new product I would like to point out are the new Black Dimensionals!  These are perfect when you are working with dark colors, no more white peeping though.  You get two sheets of regular size and two sheets of mini’s in the package.  And the last thing to point out is the actual stamp set.  The Raven stamp set is a great one if you like the spookier side of Halloween, rather than the cute.

Card featuring The Raven stamp setThere are no dies that coordinate with this set, so if you would like a raised Raven then you need to cut it out with scissors.  It’s not hard to cut out so don’t worry.  I decided to emboss the Raven on the same color card stock as the full moon, Gray Granite.  This gives him the appearance of sitting on a branch at night in front of a full moon.  Because I popped him up, that meant his feet were not quite resting on the stamped branch.  To make the claws look like they were on the branch, I colored where the branch should be with my Soft Suede Stampin’ Write Marker.  You can’t even tell I did this at arms length.
