It’s always good to have sympathy cards on hand and today I’m going to show you how to make an ombre sympathy card featuring Calla Lilys and the Stamparatus. Calla Lilys were named after the Greek word calla meaning beautiful and are associated with the Greek goddess Hera. Katharine Hepburn said it best about the Calla Lily in the movie Stage Door “The calla lilies are in bloom again. Such a strange flower — suitable to any occasion. I carried them on my wedding day, and now I place them here in the memory of something that has died.” For this reason, calla lily’s can be used for any occasion which makes the Lasting Lily stamp set a great one to have in your collection.
Color Symbolism
As you are thinking about your card design, consider the meanings of the different calla lily colors. Certainly, you can choose to create your flowers in any colors, but the meanings will give you a good start:
- White calla lilies symbolize purity and innocence.
- Pink calla lilies symbolize appreciation and admiration.
- Purple calla lilies symbolize charm and passion.
- Yellow calla lilies symbolize gratitude.
Ombre Sympathy Card
I saw a version of this card at Stampin’ Up!’s OnStage event in Orlando when I was there in November. OnStage is a great event for sharing samples, learning about new products and bringing the inspiration back home to you. The stamp set used in this card is called Lasting Lily and is a FREE stamp set when you purchase $100 of products between Jan. 1 – March 31, 2019.
Watch the tutorial I created to see how easy it is to make using your Stamparatus. A Stamparatus is a tool that allows you to put your stamps exactly where you want them. Order the Stamparatus for $49 and you are half way there to earning your free Lasting Lily stamp set. If you don’t have a Stamparatus, you can easily use your acrylic blocks. Underneath the video tutorial. are the measurements and supplies I used to make this card.
