Next week my niece is going to make her First Holy Communion. She is very special to me as we spend each Friday after school together and I have named them “Fiona Fridays”. She also thinks I’m famous because she saw some of my cards for sale at a local store. So, not to disappoint her and her card expectations, I always make an extra effort with the cards I give her. Here is what I made for her yesterday:As much as she loves glitter and all things sparkly,as most 7 year olds do, I thought it best to make this an understated card (although, now that I am looking at it with fresh eyes today with this post, I think I may just add a little Wink of Stella to the flowers on the cross). I only used two colors: Mint Macaron and Night of Navy. The two accessories used are Linen Thread and It’s My Party Enamel Dots. Two out of the three sets are on the Retirement List: Blessed by God and And Many More. The set returning in the upcoming catalog is Kinda Eclectic. I used my aqua painter to “paint” the watercolor paper background Mint Macaron. I scuffed up the edges with my fingernail – I think watercolor paper always looks great scuffed up. Here’s my tip for watercolor washing the background:The background wash on the left is straight ink to paper via the Aqua Painter. I washed the one on the right first with water and then washed/inked it with ink from the Aqua Painter (just a few re-inker drops on the top of the ink pad or squeeze the pad together to transfer ink from the pad to the lid). I think the one on the right has a much more subtle and soft look.
I found my inspiration card a while ago and saved it in a folder I save photos of cards to. Unfortunately, I did not save the creators name, but it does seem that she may be from Germany.I love this color combination as well, but thought my niece may prefer the French looking combination. I hope you like it! Be sure to check out the Retirement List before all the great deals are gone. Here are the stamp sets I used:
