Raise your hand if you wanted to be an artist when you were little. Did you doubt yourself when you got older? Think you didn’t have the talent? I am here to show you tricks and hacks that will get artist results. You will be that artist! Watercoloring is a technique that I was never able to master with a paintbrush. But, you would never know it by looking at this card. You may think it took a lot of time to get the colors to blend just so, but that is not the case. All you need to do is color on your blocks to create an artist-like watercolor background.
You only need a few supplies to get this artist-like watercolor look. Stampin’ Write Markers, an acrylic block, water spritzer and paper that can absorb water, like Shimmery white card stock or watercolor paper. I like using the Stampin’ Write Markers because they are water based, which makes the colors blend easily, and they have the nice brush tip. Alcohol based markers like the Blends Markers, will not work. Blends Markers are excellent for direct coloring on paper. Those are the only supplies you need. It is helpful to tape your paper down to the table, or a piece of cardboard like I did in the video to prevent the paper from bowing when wet.
This is a great technique that you can do on any size block and with any amount of colors, one, two, three or five. Just be sure to choose colors that will blend nicely together. Remember that the colors that are opposite on the color wheel will turn brown when they blend together. Red will not mix well with green, purple will not mix well with yellow and blue will not mix well with orange. Experiment with your color combinations and remember that colors evoke feelings. If you want a calming card, you may want to choose blues and purples. If you want an energized card, you may want to choose reds, oranges and yellows.
