9 Groups of People to Mail Cards to during COVID19

The best thing we can do is stay away from each other, aka Social Distancing.  This got me thinking about how we can still be connected to each other, something that is very important.  Let’s make and send cards!  I came up with a list of who to give/mail cards to.  I’m sure you will think of more.

1. Grocery Store & Pharmacy Workers.  They are are unsung heroes by showing up to work and selling us food and prescriptions.  Hand them a thank you card telling them how much you appreciate them being there.

2.  Nursing Homes.  Call first to be sure they are still receiving mail.  Many nursing homes are no longer accepting visitors and that must be very lonely for the residents.

3.  College students, especially graduating seniors.  Their lives have been turned upside down and are now doing their classes online with professors who may have never done a online class.  Who knows if commencement will happen for colleges this year.

4.  College Professors & Teachers.  As I stated above, they have to change their teaching methods, content, delivery to an online format in a week.  I have a few in my family and it is not going to be an easy transition for them.

5.  Nurses & Health Care Workers.  Another set of heroes who are responding to this pandemic all while having to sort out and respond to their own family situations.

6.  Self-Quarantined or Sick Friends/Family.  A get well card is needed now more than ever.

7.  Mail Carriers & Postal Staff.   The mail never stops – “Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds” have long been associated with the American postman.

8.  Neighbors.  A nice way to stay connected and say hello.

9.  Kids.  I am sure they are confused, their routine is upside down.  A couple days off is fun, but weeks of it won’t be because they will be stuck home: no playgrounds, no museums, no libraries…..  Let’s get them excited to go to the mailbox.

*Mailing Tip* – Don’t lick the envelopes.  Use either your aqua painter or a wet sponge to seal the envelope closed. You may also want to get in the practice of opening your own letters with a letter opener (or a butter knife) to avoid someone else’s licked envelope.

Last summer I wrote this post on making a quick & easy card using patterned papers. Now’s the time to use those papers!!! Here is the post: https://mailsomethingpretty.com/quick-easy-card-using-scissors-and-patterned-paper/
