Dreamy Dragonflies

By | April 6, 2017

It’s not quite dragonfly weather where I live (another 3 months to go), but that doesn’t mean I can’t create my own dreamy dragonflies in my home studio.  I immediately fell in love with the Dragonfly Dreams stamp set and coordinating Detailed Dragonflies Framelits from the 2017 Occasions catalog, but it was winter and it didn’t feel right playing with dragonflies while it was snowing.  This week’s Global Design Project Challenge GDP#081 gives me the perfect excuse to play with them. The challenge is a color challenge – to use Night of Navy, Whisper White and a color of my choice.  I am choosing to pair the Night of Navy & Whisper White with Tempting Turquoise.  What do you think? Can you just picture this dreamy dragonfly landing on your chair while you are sipping lemonade and reading a favorite book on your back deck?  That certainly sounds dreamy to me.

Details for this Dreamy Dragonfly

I find if you stamp the outline of the dragonfly first (in Night of Navy), then stamp the inner wing color (Tempting Turquoise) you can align it better.  I actually stamped off the turquoise so the wings have a lighter color.  Stamping off is when you ink your stamp, stamp it on scrap paper and then stamp it on your good card stock.

The little polka dots are a stamp within the set that I stamped on the bottom and then turned the paper around and stamped on the top (creating a mirror image).  This piece of navy is 2 1/2″ x 2 1/2″.  I used an 1/8″ increase for each the white and turquoise layers.

The background stamp is all one stamp and is called A World of Thanks.  It’s a stamp that gets forgotten on my shelf, but I think it adds to the card perfectly by creating a nice, subtle background.  I wanted the dragonfly to shine on it’s own.

Another background option is with the Hardwood background stamp shown here:

Dreamy Dragonfly with HardwoodA few more details

I wanted this dreamy dragonfly to have just a touch of bling, so I painted it’s wings with Wink of Stella and added just one rhinestone.  Wink of Stella is an amazing glitter brush that adds a subtle amount of glitter with a quick brushstroke and no mess.  I can’t seem to photograph the effect of Wink of Stella, but the beautiful shimmer is there.

My inspiration for this card came from a business card I picked up a little while ago (before the stamp set was even released).  I just loved it and held onto it for an inspiration piece to use someday. My card isn’t exactly like this business card because I wanted to incorporate my design into the challenge, but I think it’s influences are there.  If I were to make more of a replica, I would do a watercolor wash as the background, add more shimmer with copper and maybe a little gold embossing powder.

I would love to know what you think, so please leave a happy comment.  If you are interested in purchasing the Dragonfly Dreams stamp set and Detailed Dragonfly Framelits, just hop on over to my store, or click on the highlighted links.  Both are even sold as a bundle saving you 10%!  Thanks for stopping by and be sure to sign up for my mailing list.

Fun Easter Cards & Treats

By | March 31, 2017

Easter has so many different styles, themes and color palettes.  Easter bunnies, eggs and baskets are often created using pastel colors.  This year, I wanted to go bold in making my fun Easter cards & treats.  I achieve this boldness with bright colors and whimsy.

Easter Card #1

My first card focuses on two retiring In-Colors: Cucumber Crush & Tip Top Taupe.  These In-Colors, as well as Watermelon Wonder, Mint Macaron and Delightful Dijon are retiring soon and will only be available until the end of May (or until supplies last).  If you need more card stock, accessories or re-inkers to go along with this In-Color collection, order them soon.  Swirly bird Easter BunnyI was inspired by a card I found on Pinterest and chose to CASE (copy and selectively edit) it.  Here is the inspiration card:I loved the whimsy of the bunny she created using the Swirly Bird Framelits Dies.  I substituted Tempting Turquoise for the background paper because she used the  retired color Coastal Cabana.  I used the Large Polka Dot embossing folder and ran it through the Big Shot twice (the second time with the paper offset).  Instead of the Basket Builder Framelits dies, I used my awesome fringe scissors to make the grass.  The Happy Easter stamp is from my March Paper Pumpkin kit.

Second Easter Card

I really love how this card can be used for almost any occasion.Floral & Butterfly CardI focused on the bold colors of Watermelon Wonder & Cucumber Crush.  Stamp sets used are: Flower Shop, Petite Petals & Kinda Eclectic.  This card also uses punches rather than the Big Shot.  Not a whole lot of technique involved, just stamp, punch and stick.  A little bit of bling was added with basic rhinestones and silver sequins.  Here is my inspiration I found on Pinterest:My favorite part of this inspiration card is the burst of flowers and butterflies.  I’m using my version for Easter right now, but may make up some more and leave them blank inside until they are specifically needed.

Easter Treats

Easter TreatsThere’s just enough chocolate inside (7 Hersey chocolate eggs) to indulge a sweet tooth.  These treats have been circulating around the Stampin’ Up! demonstrator world quite a bit and these are my version.  I didn’t have the bunny from the Basket Bunch stamp set, so I came up with these cute bunny heads using the stamps from March’s Paper Pumpkin kit (twice I’ve used these Paper Pumpkin stamps for this Easter class – make sure you are a Paper Pumpkin subscriber so you can receive your exclusive stamps each month to use on your own projects).    You can subscribe to Paper Pumpkin right here (it’s only $19.95/month).Here are the treats I CASED from and she CASED from (theirs are a bit longer than mine):

I would love to have you join me at my fun Easter Cards & Treats class on Thursday, April 6 at 10 am or Friday, April 7 at 10 am or 7 pm.  All you need to do is RSVP by Wednesday noon April 5.

Create a One window Shaker Card

By | March 25, 2017

Shaker cards are so much fun to make and receive.  They may look complicated, but really, they are pretty easy to make.  In this video, I will show you how to make a one window shaker card.  Below the video are the supplies I used and measurements.

I made this card using the Party Animal Suite of products from the 2017 Occasions Catalog.  You can easily change out the paper to customize your own card.

Card Base in Pacific Point – cut 5 1/2″ x 4 1/4″ scored at 4 1/4″

Confetti background paper (from Party Animal patterned paper #142738) – cut 5 1/4″ x 4″ (right now and until March 31, 2017, this paper is free with a $50 order – use #147365 to get it for free)

Whisper White paper (to be cut with Balloon Pop-Up Thinlits Dies #142753) – cut 5″ x 4 7/8″

Inside whisper white paper cut 5 1/4″ x 4″

Balloons & confetti used scrap pieces of Crushed Curry, Pacific Point, Emerald Envy, Tangerine Tango & Silver Foil

Fringe Scissors #133325

Foam Strips #141825

Ink colors:  Pacific Point & Tip Top Taupe

Two Window Shaker Card

By | March 2, 2017

Shaker Cards are so much fun to receive and now you’ll see that they are so much fun to make too.  It’s like receiving an interactive toy in the mail.  I made a video showing you how to make this two window shaker card

Two window shaker card using Cool Treats patterned paper and accessories

and posted it on YouTube here: https://youtu.be/IZ7YABkMBFM.

These are the supplies I used for the two window shaker card, but you can substitute any card stock, patterned papers and stamp sets:

Card Base:   8 1/2″ x 4 1/4″ scored in half at 4 1/4″.  I used Watermelon Wonder.

Patterned Paper: 4″ x 4″.  I used Tasty Treats Specialty Designer Series Paper #142770

Inside Papers: 4″ x 4″.  I used Whisper White & Watermelon Wonder

Window Sheets, 2 pieces each size 4″ x 4″.

Embellishments: Sprinkles Embellishments #142741 (or sequins), Tasty Treats Designer Washi Tape #142773, Whisper White Baker’s Twine #124262

Stamp Set & Framelits Bundle:  Cool Treats Bundle (Photopolymer) #145181.  You can purchase the stamp set and Framelits dies separately, but the bundle saves you 10% (and really you don’t want to use one without the other).

Other Products used:  Layering Circle Framelits Dies #141705, Big Shot #143263, Fast Fuse #129026, Fine Tip Glue #138309.  The framed circle color is Pool Party.

I linked all the products to my online store so you can find them easily for ordering just by clicking on them.  Remember, Sale-a-bration ends on March 31 so don’t delay in getting your free products!  Each increment of $50 in products ordered earns you free, exclusive Sale-a-bration products.  There are no limits.

The beauty of this Cool Treats design is that you can give it to anyone: child, adult, tween, teen, girl or boy.  I live in New England and we enjoy ice cream all year round – it’s not just a summer treat.  And, this ice cream cone is calorie free!!

Let me know what you think of my video and the instructions I gave in the comments section.  I’d love to hear about (and see) your own version of this two window shaker card.

Using Framelits as Stencils for Watercoloring with Aqua Painters

By | February 26, 2017

Here’s a really cool technique for using Framelits as stencils to watercolor with Aqua Painters and ink pads.  I thought this technique and this card were a perfect match for this week’s Global Design Project Challenge #GDP075.  The challenge was to create a project using the theme “Winged Creatures”.  Here’s my finished card and step by step directions.Watercolored painted butterfly card in shades of daffodil delight and watermelon wonder. Here are my steps:

Tape down your piece of watercolor paper with painters tape.  Watercolor paper measures 4″ x 3″.  Trace the inner side of the Framelit (I used the butterfly from Bold Butterfly #138135) with a pencil to create your stencil.First “paint” the entire inside of the butterfly with just water and your Aqua Painter.  Then paint over the water layer with your choice of color.  I used Daffodil Delight. While the yellow is still wet, pick up some of your second color (I used Watermelon Wonder) and squeeze/drip some of the Watermelon color onto the yellow.  A tie-dye look will appear.  All of the colors should stay within the pencil lines.  Let it sit for a minute or two.You can let the butterfly air dry on it’s own or use your Heat Tool to dry it.  You will be able to move the water & ink around and create some cool textured looks.  The water & ink should stay within the lines unless your heat tool gets too close or if your butterfly is really wet.Once dry, you can erase your pencil marks.  The butterfly takes on a beautiful appearance once the lines are gone.No lines and a beautiful butterfly!Create a splatter look by using a wet aqua painter and dipping it into the ink (I used Daffodil Delight).  Using your free hand as a base, thump the inked Aqua Painter on your hand and you will get splatter marks.I used the patterned paper from the free Sale-a-bration pack “Carried Away”.  The pink paper is cut 5 1/4″ x 4 and the gray polka dot strip is 1″ x 4″.  The base card color is Smoky Slate.  I cut a strip of vellum 1/2″ x 3 1/2″ and pre-stamped “To a wonderful friend…” from the Dragonfly Dreams stamp set in Basic Black archival ink. Vellum paper takes a little while to dry.  I have two choices of sparkle shown in this photo: “Sprinkles Embellishments” and sequins from a past Paper Pumpkin kit.The messy thread look is pretty trendy right now.   I know that many of you get intimidated trying to get the “right” messy look.  I put a glue dot at 9 o’clock and one at 3 o’clock and then put the silver thread down on those glue dots.  The thread stays in place, but also keeps the look of movement.  Place your sentiment on top of the glue dots.Watercolored painted butterfly card in shades of daffodil delight and watermelon wonder.I hid the glue dot with a sequin and then added a few more. Here is another version of the same card, but using the Sprinkles embellishments instead of the sequins.  As you can see, each butterfly and splatter comes out differently making each butterfly unique.

Using a Framelit as a stencil opens up so many possibilities for using your Aqua Painters and watercoloring. I love it when one product has more than one purpose.  Be sure to write a comment on this post and let me know what you think of this technique and my directions.

Window Box

By | January 27, 2017

I haven’t submitted anything to the Global Design Project in a while and thought this week’s challenge #GDP071 was a great one to get me back in the game.  Take a peek at their website to really be inspired by Stampin’ Up! demonstrators (both design team members and people like me who enter their challenges) from across the globe: www.global-design-project.com

This Window Box may look like it’s complicated to put together, but it really IS easy to assemble.  The box is made with two pieces of card stock cut with the Big Shot & Window Box Thinlits Dies and glued together at the provided scored tabs.  Keep the box simple or use the delicate dies to create a peek inside effect.  For this birthday box, I used the included candle dies paired with the layering square thinlits (scallop dies) and a complementary tangerine tango to make the candles pop.  I am absolutely in love with the Party Animal DSP, especially the animals wearing their party hats.

The Party Animal Suite of products includes Party Animal Designer Series Paper, complementary embellishments (aka card jewelry), taffeta Emerald Envy ribbon and Washi tape (not used here).  I also added some whisper white baker’s twine.Included with the Thinlits dies is a die that makes it so easy to create a folder banner like the one I put on top of this box.  Cut your strip at 5 1/4″ x 7/8″ and use the die at each end.  It will both cut and score in two places. I used the Window Shopping stamp set that coordinates (and also is a bundle option) with the Window Box Thinlits dies.  For my banner, I used only half the Happy Birthday stamp and borrowed the “happy” from Crazy About You.  I just cut the edges of the happy with my paper snips.

Window Shopping Stamp Set – available in clear and wood mountWindow Box ThinlitsWindow Shopping Bundle There are so many ways you can use this box and all the coordinating elements.  I can’t wait to play with it some more.

Happy 10 year Anniversary TODAY

By | January 22, 2017
Yesterday was a great way to celebrate my 10 year anniversary with Stampin’ Up! (today is the actual day).  13 people came to my house for my annual Catalog Launch & Sale-a-Bration party (unfortunately it was a day of obligations for many of you).  They made 3 cards designed by me and one card from the Watercolor Wishes Card Kit.   I had many samples of cards, 3D items and products on display from the new catalogs and upcoming classes (those photos are at the end of this post).  Over the last two days, 3 people have taken advantage of the fabulous Sale-a-bration promotion of the Starter Kit and joined my team.  I’m so glad to have them be a part of Wicked Stampahs and have given them a pair of paper snips as a thank you for joining.  As I announced previously, I’m giving snips away to the first 5 people who sign up – so that means I have two pairs left (do they have your name on them?).
I’m still putting names in the raffle jar for anyone who places an order in January. Five people will win a $10 gift certificate from me as celebration of my 10 year anniversary.  Winners will be announced on February 1.
Don’t forget about the sale on the 3 month pre-paid subscription of Paper Pumpkin. This sale applies to new and existing customers and earns you a free Sale-a-bration item (sale price good until March 31 and there are no limits on how many you purchase).  Sale price is $55 for 3 months.  Click here for pre-paid Paper Pumpkin Subscriptions
I always forget to take photos because I’m having so much fun, but I did take a few:

Everyone went home with Hot Chocolate on a Stick as their party favor.  Here’s a link to the recipe I used:   http://www.makeandtakes.com/hot-chocolate-on-a-stick

Sale-a-Bration & the 2017 Occasions Catalog is HERE

By | January 5, 2017

Despite the rough start of unexpected technical difficulties with the Stampin’ Up! system, Sale-a-bration and the 2017 Occasions Catalog have officially launched!  There are so many incredible new products in both these catalogs. Be sure to get your pen and sticky notes ready because your need-to-have list is going to be super long.

snip20161205_6Click here to see 2017 Occasions Catalog online.snip20170105_13Click here to see Sale-a-bration catalog online.

What exactly is Sale-a-Bration?

Sale-A-Bration is the much anticipated 3-month opportunity of earning free products.  During Sale-a-Bration, you have not just one but THREE ways to earn free products!

  1. SHOP- For every $50 you spend (before shipping & tax), you can choose an item of your choice from the Sale-a-Bration catalog (even more items will be available on Feb. 21).
  2. JOIN – Now is the perfect time to join Stampin’ Up!  During Sale-a-Bration, your Starter Kit* will be extra special because you can choose ANY additional two stamp sets (that’s an added value of up to $104).  Since your wish list is going to be extra long, this is the best deal for you!
  3. HOST – Parties are the best and now they are even better!  Host a qualifying party** during Sale-a-Bration and earn an extra $25 in Stampin’ Rewards.  You can even use your Stampin’ Rewards towards your Starter Kit (that’s like a double bonus).

*A “Starter Kit” is your choice of any products in either/both the Annual catalog and Occasions catalog valued up to $125 – you pay only $99 and receive free shipping (and some extra stuff like a free Paper Pumpkin kit and catalogs to hand out to friends).  This is the BEST DEAL around.  By joining my team (aka purchasing a Starter Kit), you can take some of my classes at a discount, attend monthly creative meetings & events and be a part our Wicked Stampahs Facebook group.  There is no time contract and no commitment.  If you decide to purchase the Starter Kit one day and then decide never to order again, that’s okay (but very sad).  There is absolutely no risk involved in purchasing a Starter Kit.

**A qualifying party (to receive the extra $25) is $250.  This means a party of $250 in sales would earn you, as the hostess, $50 of free products.

Did you know you can take advantage of all three ways of Sale-a-Bration yourself!?!

Join Stampin’ Up! and get all the incredible savings and free products, then purchase some products receiving free Sale-a-Bration catalog items (with every $50 you purchase) at the party YOU are the hostess of (earning extra Stampin’ Rewards).  It’s a triple win!!!

Be a Stampin’ Up! hobbyist (you would fit in with 90% of all demonstrators) to get a discount each time you order, OR turn your hobby into something more by creating a business that works for you.  My team of Wicked Stampahs has, invites and supports every type of stamper.

January hostess code F73RVP9P

Each January order will be entered to win a gift certificate from me to celebrate my 10 years of being part of the Stampin’ Up! family.

Be sure to come back here often and check out my Facebook page during Sale-a-Bration for samples and videos using all the new products.

Your invitation to my Exclusive Sale-a-Bration Celebration Awaits!

I am hosting a special party and I want you to come.  You will be spoiled and pampered at this “Sale-a-Bration Celebration Party”.  The only way to receive an invitation is to:

  1.  Join my team (details of joining are above)
  2. Host a party or private class (6-10 people)
  3. Spend $150 in products between now and March 31.

This party will be held in either April or May (exact date to be determined soon).  If you qualify to come but can’t attend, don’t worry – I’ll spoil you too.

Celebrate My 10 Year Anniversary with Me!

By | January 2, 2017

I’m so very happy I joined Stampin’ Up! 10 years ago (during the incredible Sale-a-Bration). It’s such a big and important part of my life: creatively, socially and as an income. I’m so grateful for all the friends I have made locally and from around the world. All because I took a chance on this creative opportunity. I’m looking forward to the next 10 years!!! Care to join me?  Sale-A-Bration begins in just two days and is the best time of year to join.ten

Christmas Cards Mailed to Me!

By | December 29, 2016

Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukah and Happy New Year to you all!  My family and I had a wonderful Christmas that actually lasted 3 days.  I have been enjoying sleeping in each morning during this holiday break, but am secretly looking forward to our routine beginning again on Tuesday.  It’s been a little stressful around here getting the college applications completed.  My stamping studio was turned into a dining room and I need to switch it back to my creative spot.

I wanted to share with you all the Christmas and Holiday cards that I received from so many of you.  Thank you!!!  I love to receive happy mail, especially mail crafted by you.img_3370made by Mary C.fullsizerender-12 made by Valerie B.fullsizerender-4made by Mimi C.fullsizerender-8made by Michele W.fullsizerender-11made by Ellen C.fullsizerender-7 made by Michelle C.img_3376made by Tracy B.fullsizerender-5made by Jennifer C.fullsizerender-3 made by Kathie D.fullsizerender-13made by Susan S.fullsizerender-2made by Nancy G.fullsizerender-14 made by Adie.
