Christmas in July Featuring At Home with You

Every mid December I wish I had more time to create hand made gifts and decorate them with creative love.  I find myself getting “just enough” done.  Pinterest is put aside because there never is enough time to do everything I see. Make your Christmas cards now to get ahead of the fast paced Christmas season. To help this Christmas time crunch, I started hosting Christmas card classes in the summer.  They tend to be very popular. Who wouldn’t like to have a stockpile of handmade Christmas cards ready made when the season rolls around?

At Home with You

The new At Home with You stamp set isn’t necessarily a Christmas set because it includes multi-seasonal stamps, but that was my first reaction to it.  I instantly loved the door featured in the set because it is the same door as my front door!  My front door is naturally stained wood, but with the stamp set and creativity, I can change it up a bit without taking out the sand paper and paint.Red Door with GarlandThis card features watercoloring with Stampin’ Up!’s Watercolor Pencils and Aqua Painter.  I used Shimmery White card stock because it’s so easy to color and “paint” with the water filled Aqua Painter.  These two cards are identical except for the wreaths.  The first wreath is stamped from the set and cut out with the coordinating At Home Framelits.  The second wreath is a wreath from the Boxwood Wreaths Embellishments.

Tip for the Wreath:

I colored beyond the lines to the edges of the wreath with the Old Olive pencil.  This eliminates the white space between the lined art and cut edge.  The wreath seems more realistic this way (not many wreaths have a white edge).

Garland turned into FrameI am so pleased with how this card came out!  I cut two garland pieces from the garland dies (with the At Home Framelits) and turned them into a frame!!!  Just a little overlapping fits the Happy Christmas perfectly.  I used the red Stampin’ Write marker for the berries and the Watercolor Pencils for the holly.

Tip for Holly:

If you don’t have a holly & berry stamps, but have the Holly Berry Builder punch, then you can use a permanent marker to outline the edges and draw your own details.

Advice from CoCo Chanel

Coco Chanel, was said to have advised the following when dressing with accessories: “Before you leave the house, look in the mirror and take one thing off.”  I try to follow this advice for card making too.  This card purposely doesn’t have too many details (aka accessories).  Anything extra would detract from the open door feature. Embossing highlights the door in black and also the wreath.  A little baker’s twine ties the wreath right onto the door through it’s open window panes.

Opening Door Card

The Door Actually Opens!

The coordinating At Home Framelits make this open door feature so easy – no scissors needed.  Put a secret message inside the door and another message inside the card.  As I was creating this card, I thought the opening door would make an awesome gift tag.  I’ll need to make some of those during the summer too so they are ready to use in December.

Would you like to make these cards?  Make your Christmas cards now to get ahead of the fast paced Christmas season.  The dates for this card class are Wednesday, July 26 at 9:30 am and 7 pm and Thursday, July 27 at 9:30 am.  $30 to make 6 cards (2 of each) and $20 to make 12 cards (4 of each).  Please let me know how many cards you want to make in your RSVP christine@mailsomethingpretty.com.

  1. These cards are lovely Christine. Each is so different even though you are using the same stamp set. Keep them coming.
